24HourDallas hosts inaugural Copper Star Certification Celebration
honoring 44 nighttime businesses becoming Copper Star Certified

DALLAS, TX (August 16, 2022) — 24HourDallas invites members of the public and media to an awards ceremony at The Rose Room at Station 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2022. During the ceremony, Dallas’ City Manager, T.C. Broadnax will give keynote remarks discussing the importance of Dallas’ nighttime economy and congratulating these 44 businesses representing over 50 locations on their achievements. The Copper Star Certification is a voluntary, accreditation program, modeled after other successful programs including Best Bar None, the Purple Flag Program, and the Arlington Restaurant Initiative to increase safety and reduce alcohol-related harms.

“We cannot be more thrilled for our 44 nighttime establishments who have taken it upon themselves to earn the Copper Star Certification over the course of the last six months,” said Keith Foster, 24HourDallas Board President. “These businesses exemplify what it means to be a good neighbor and will continue to add to Dallas’ safety, inclusion, and vibrancy at night. We look forward to their continued contributions to Dallas’ nighttime economy and hopefully recertifying them all for another 2 years at the end of 2023.”

The launch of the annual Copper Star Certification Celebration is an extension of 24HourDallas’ Good Neighbor Initiative (GNI), started in December 2021. The GNI is a comprehensive, community-based program that aims to create safer nights out and borrows from the evidencebased, effective Safe Night LLC program. 24HourDallas’ Copper Star Certification Program also includes a 6” 2022-23 Copper Star Certified medallion that each Copper Star Certified business can display on the exterior or interior of their facility and a $500 microgrant that they can dedicate to making their establishment more nighttime friendly.

24HourDallas previously hosted Women U-Night on March 8 to launch a Women’s Night Safety Charter and partnered with the City of Dallas for a Clubs, Pubs, and Bars kick-off meeting on July 19, 2022. “24HourDallas and its Copper Star Certified businesses are leading by example in the City of Dallas,” said Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax. “As the City of Dallas strives to promote R.E.A.L. change, we recognize the valuable contributions these businesses have made to be more responsible, equitable, accountable, and legitimate parts of Dallas’ growing nighttime economy”

“Responsibility.org is committed to reducing alcohol-related harms, and we are proud to replicate components of the Safe Night program on a larger scale with 24HourDallas. This proven, collaborative model unites the hospitality industry with law enforcement to achieve our common goal of a vibrant and safe nighttime environment. Our ongoing meetings with the City of Dallas and Safe Night training sessions play a critical role in our shared goal,” said Brandy Nannini, Senior Vice President, Responsibility Initiatives, Responsibility.org. Ms. Nannini will speak on behalf of 24HourDallas’ national partners, including Pernod Ricard USA, a premium spirits and wine company in the U.S, and Safe Night LLC, an organization that works with local governments and public/private partnerships to increase trust, safety, and economic viability of municipal nightlife.

Beginning in January 2023, 24HourDallas will recruit the next class of nighttime businesses wishing to achieve the Copper Star Certification. In order to achieve the Copper Star Certification, each business met a points-based threshold from over 100 criteria in four categories (safety and well-being, internal operations, community relations, and appeal and attractiveness) and hosted site visits in July to verify their self-assessments. 24HourDallas relies on the support of volunteers, municipal agencies, business owners, and the community to not only create a safer nighttime environment, but also address unconscious bias towards those who work and participate in nighttime events by advocating for diversity and inclusivity in the nighttime economy.
